A complain

We Filipinos are very creative. We love creating things out of scrap. But one thing I hate is when we tried to copy western culture to be "in". Let me give you an example. This is a word that you probably always hear in a chick flick, or from your girlfriend, the word really pisses me off when I hear, especially if they use the word to refer to me.

The word "GIRL".

When someone calls me girl, I felt as if they don't know/forgot my name and that they are only using it because they are so polite to admit that they have forgotten/don't know my name. I already know that I'm a girl. I mean, having a vagina with a clitoris sticking out is already enough to remind me that, you no longer have to rub it in. Don't get me wrong. I love being a woman and 'm proud of being one. I just think that it's redundant if you will still call a girl "girl". I mean, how will you be able to classify one girl to another if we keep on calling them that? We don't call a guy "boy" if we call them right? So why don't we just use their names instead? Besides, that's why names are invented.

It may be OK to use the word once in a while in a conversation, but to use it excessively as if you just change their names into "girl" or you use the name in every sentence you make is a no-no. And also with all those guys using the word to refer to us girls, stop it. No matter how you say it, it gives an impression that you're gay, and don't ask me why because you should know.

And here's what I really don't get, if we are going to translate the word in vernacular, it's "babae" right?. When I was growing up, calling a woman "babae" is a sign of disrespect, and if you call a woman "babae" they will automatically answer "may pangalan ako". But now? The only difference is "babae" was translated in English but instead of feeling disrespected , girls no longer notice it. I mean we should feel disrespected that you call us "babae/girl" instead of our name. And also, feel disrespected for your parents because they are the ones who gave us names only to be replaced by the word "girl/babae".

I might be the only person in the planet who has this odd complain about this, but think about it, isn't it a music in your ear if you hear your name being called by someone?at least someone whose close to you (well, I don't know for those who has no-so-pretty name), plus you no longer have to be confuse if you are the one being called, especially if you are in a room full of girls right? So please before using the word, think about it.
